New Economy Project welcomes cy pres awards of unclaimed, unallocated or undeliverable funds from class action settlements.
Cy Pres is a doctrine that permits a court to award any unallocated, unclaimed, or undeliverable funds from a settlement or judgment to a non-profit organization. New Economy Project is eligible to receive nominations and awards for cy pres funding resulting from a wide variety of cases.
New Economy Project has received cy pres awards that have supported our work providing free, high-quality legal services to low-income New Yorkers harmed by financial and economic injustice. Through our NYC Financial Justice Hotline, we assist low-income, immigrant, and older adult New Yorkers on matters related to unfair and abusive debt collection, fraudulent lending and credit reporting practices, barriers to fair banking access, and more. We also conduct community legal education and provide extensive pro se resources on these issues, in multiple languages.
If you would like to nominate New Economy Project for a cy pres award, please contact our Development Director, Grace Chung, at grace@neweconomynyc.org.
